Imad Fathi Abu-Alia, a dedicated Palestinian farmer from Al Mughayyir village, northeast of Ramallah, has faced unimaginable hardships in recent months. Three months ago, his life took a devastating turn when he was brutally attacked by a group of Israeli settlers. In a courageous attempt to defend his land, cattle, and olive trees, Imad was viciously beaten, resulting in severe bruises, broken bones, and damage to his eyesight.
For weeks, he was bedridden, suffering from intense pain in his legs and back, which still plagues him today. The assault did not only leave physical scars, it also robbed him of his livelihood. His 120 cattle were stolen, and the 75 olive trees he was given through the Olive Tree Campaign in early 2024 were set ablaze by the attackers. The trauma of that night has left him fearful and uncertain about returning to his land, knowing that the settlers continue to pose a threat.
This incident highlights the broader issues faced by many Palestinian farmers who are subjected to settler violence and land theft. Imad's story is a stark reminder of the ongoing struggles for justice and security in the region. Despite the immense challenges, Imad's resilience and determination to protect his land and livelihood continue to inspire those who hear his story.
