Huda SponsorIn 2022 the children of the primary school Al Yaqoet in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, did a sponsor run for Palestine. With the money they raised 325 olive trees have been planted. Plant een Olijfboom (Plant an Olive Tree) our partner in the Netherlands visited every classroom with kids 4 to 12 years old, to talk about Palestine and raise awareness. By planting these trees, the new generation took action and has planted hope for the future.

Huda Bakboord is a teacher at al Yagoet School, she came to visit Palestine in 2022 and took part in the Olive Picking Program. Huda also visited one of the field where the sponsored trees were planted. Huda said we will always do our best to teach the children in the Netherlands about the injustice that our Palestinian friends and sisters face on the daily basis. Planting olive trees is the best way to resist the Israeli occupation. Also it is a holy tree and it was mentioned in the Qur'an.

SindreMy name is Sindre Roalkvam, I am from Norway, and I took part in a fundraising campaign to plant Olive trees in Palestine. Around 200 people took part in the fundraising campaign and it has become an annual event which Norwegians will take part in every year. My experience with helping out with the fundraising has been very positive. People are very happy to help support and gather money for sponsoring olive trees, even when they do not understand the situation, they believe that planting olive trees can only be a good thing and are very willing to support it.

I personally know a lot about the situation in Palestine, about the occupation and its affects on Palestinians. This is why I wanted to take part in this fundraising. And I was also privileged enough to be able to go to Palestine myself and plant some of the trees we sponsored. My role in our campaign was to interview experts and Palestinians so that others could get a better understanding and be willing to donate more money to the campaign.

marthe2020A few months before my trip to Palestine, I attended a meeting of the Dutch Olive Tree Campaign. I was immediately moved by the message of this campaign. It may seem like a small thing, just an olive tree, but it has tremendous impact. I sponsor olive trees for the campaign. It is a powerful and peaceful way to help the Palestinian farmers, whose lives and lands are threatened by the Israeli military occupation.

During my stay in the summer of 2018, I faced the daily struggles of the life of Palestinians under the occupation. I visited Palestinian farmers who suffer under the unjust Israeli policies.
With my volunteer work for the Olive Tree Campaign I want to show solidarity whilst at the same time raising awareness about the situation in Palestine. By sharing the stories of Palestinians and spreading a message of hope, I want to encourage others to get involved and sponsor olive trees.

Alison MilieMy first encounter with the Holy Land was in 2011, as a pilgrim. While I was away, I heard from an NGO how volunteers were needed to help bring in the olive harvest. By 2014, I was ready to return and during my planning I discovered the JAI Olive Tree Campaign. Taking part in the olive harvest program was an unforgettable experience; educational, entertaining, enchanting and friends made for life. I fell in love with the land, the culture, the people – and the olive tree, for its beauty and all that it represents.

I wanted to do more so I decided to run a project to encourage sponsorship of 60 olive tree saplings to mark my 60th birthday in 2021. God willing, I will be planting them in February 2022 during the Olive Planting Program. In doing this act, we can show solidarity with the Palestinian farmers and their families and Keep Hope Alive.

ro2019In August 2017, I went to the Greenbelt Festival in Kettering, England with some friends. The first session I went to changed my life! The speaker, from the 'Embrace Middle East' charity unfolded the history of the Nakba and the occupation on Palestinians, something I knew virtually nothing about.

Rather than leaving us overwhelmed by the enormity of the challenges faced by ordinary people living in occupation, he explained how a simple act of sponsoring an olive tree can bring both hope and practical help to the Palestinian farmers. So along with others, I sponsored a tree. The next morning I knew there was more for me to do. So, I committed to buy a further 58 trees to celebrate my 59th birthday in March 2018. By the end of the Saturday I had arranged to go to the West Bank in February 2018 to plant my 59 trees!

Planting row after row of olive saplings under clear skies, with an International group, was both hard work and great fun. Throughout we experienced hospitality and gratitude from the farmers and their families and saw first hand the challenges they face.
