Together with Palestinian Youth Ecumenical Movement (PYEM), JAI organized a five –day camp for a delegation of the Norwegian Student Christian Movement(SCM/Norway).
The Camp aimed at creating close Interaction between the PYEM and the SCM /Norway as well as having cultural, educational and social exposure. The Camp was attended by 23 members of PYEM , 4 members from the SCM/ Norway in addition to three JAI volunteers from Switzerland and Denmark and a YMCA volunteer from Sweden.
The Camp included activities of serving at the Elders’ Club in Beit Sahour, orphan children in Bethlehem, and doing some physical work at the YMCA in Beit Sahour. It also included: guided tours into religious sites in Bethlehem, Jerusalem and Jericho, JAI tours to witness the apartheid wall, settlements and land confiscation in Bethlehem area. The participants also attended presentations on various Palestinian issues including the refugees, Boycott-Divestment-Sanctions Campaign, Kairos Palestine document, beside having daily bible studies.
The visit was also an opportunity for the Norwegian group to be exposed to the Palestinian food, music, folklore, with performances arranged by the JAI.
This trip from the SCM/Norway followed visits to Norway paid by 7 members of the PYEM in August 2011 and June 2012, and hence ongoing successful youth ecumenical partnership.
PYEM is a youth group that was founded by the JAI in 2009 and works under its umbrella.
